NCIS switched both its day and timeslot last year, showing a day earlier on Mondays at the later time of 9pm ET/PT.

This will also be the case for season 20’s debut episode as well as the rest of the series.

September 19 is also going to mark the return of NCIS Hawaii after it was renewed for a second series last year.

To celebrate the start of both series, NCIS and NCIS Hawaii will return with a two-hour crossover special.

Fans loved seeing the two dramas come together in March last year when Agent Nick Torres (played by Wilmer Valderrama) was invited to go to Hawaii by Agent Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey).

They had previously worked on a case together and Jane asked if he would visit as there was a new lead.

The latest crossover, titled A Family Matter, will see Washington’s team travel to Hawaii to continue their hunt for a deadly felon.

As they continue their search with the help of NCIS Hawaii’s agents, “a complex network and a larger sinister plan” is unveiled as they try to stop a large-scale a****k.

Season 20 will also pick up from series 19’s cliffhanger which saw Special Agent Alden Parker (Gary Cole) on the run with his ex-wife Vivian (Teri Polo).

He was being suspected of murdering a formal rival which Parker strongly denied.

The team believes someone with a personal vendetta against Parker is responsible and is working hard to try and clear their colleague’s name.

With NCIS Hawaii’s Jane and computer specialist Ernie Malick’s (Jason Antoon) help, will Parker be able to come out of hiding?

While fans are excited to see the return of NCIS, it is bittersweet as this milestone series isn’t going to feature Agent Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon).

Gibbs decided to retire from NCIS after tracking down a serial k****r in Alaska.

He explained he felt at peace there and so gave up his life in Washington to start a new life away from his beloved team.

NCIS season 20 premieres on Monday, September 19, on CBS in the USA. A UK release date hasn’t been announced.
