Jennifer Lopez breaks down in tears on red carpet – and now everyone is saying the same thing
Given the amount of time A-list celebrities spend in front of flashing cameras, it’s no great surprise that the majority of them know a trick or two when it comes to hiding whatever emotions might be bubbling under the surface.
Carefree smiles and cheery demeanors are usually the standard for the entertainment industry’s top dogs. After all, letting on that they’re struggling with inner-conflict or, God forbid, going through a rough patch in life, usually results in endless headlines and a tirade of speculation based in the realms of nonsense.
Nevertheless, there are occasions when they can let their guard down, and Jennifer Lopez appeared to do just that recently at the Golden Globes.
There were many stories that came courtesy of the 2024 Golden Globes awards ceremony, but among the most heartwarming was the one involving Jennifer Lopez and Brie Larson.
The pair – both major stars in their own right – happened to cross paths on the red carpet, and their exchange went viral after Larson, 34, admitted that one of Lopez’s films, 1997’s Selena, was the main inspiration behind her own acting journey.
Lopez was reduced to tears in the encounter, and later explained on a talk-show appearance how it had deeply affected her.
For her part, Oscar winner Larson was in the middle of an interview with Entertainment Tonight when she saw Lopez approaching her. The Avengers: Endgame star closed her eyes and said: “Oh my God. I’m gonna cry. I can’t deal with J. Lo.”
What followed was Larson showering Lopez with praise, telling the singer-come-actress: “You mean to much to me.”
“I saw Selena and it made me want to be an actor. And you’ve always meant so much to me,” Larson gushed, to which Lopez replied: “Oh my God, don’t make me cry.”
Larson continued: “Your work ethic is so important. Thank you. I’ve been wanting to say that to you for a long time so I’m really — I didn’t think it was going to be right now. OK. I’m gonna have to go do a shot of tequila or something.”
The impromptu meeting between the two power women was warmly received online, and Lopez later admitted to having been emotionally impacted by Larson’s words.
“It brings tears to my eyes now because it’s very moving, because you give your heart and soul to this when you’re an artist,” she told Zane Lowe, adding: “I remember being a little girl and watching West Side Story and seeing Rita Moreno and knowing what that meant for me.”
Lopez went on: “When I was looking at Brie and I saw her and I was just staring in her eyes because she was so locked in with me and just [was] like, ‘I have wanted to tell you this for so long.’”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, fans online were moved by the encounter between Lopez and Larson.
“And suddenly, the world is a little bit less awful,” one Twitter user wrote.
