Mark Harmon addresses NCIS return rumours

Former NCIS star Mark Harmon has addressed the rumours that he is set to return to the show.

The actor left his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in 2021, bringing an end to his 18-year association with the show, which included an appearance on spin-off series New Orleans.

Despite his exit, there have been rumours of a return, but the star told Entertainment Tonight that there was nothing in the pipeline.

“He’s [Leroy] probably sitting in a stream up in Alaska fishing,” he said. “Is he going to get out of the stream? I don’t know. But if he is, I don’t know about it.”

Harmon previously addressed his exit from the show in a statement, saying: “What has always drawn me here is the character I play and to keep it fresh and to keep it challenging. Plot-wise, this character has taken the path that it did. I thought it was honest and okay.”

Showrunner Steve Binder has also teased the prospect of Harmon returning to the series, saying: “As an executive producer and dear friend, Mark continues to be an integral part of the fabric of the show.

“Our north star has always been staying true to our characters, and that truth has always guided the stories we tell and where those characters go. So regarding the future of Gibbs, as longtime fans of the show may have noticed over the years… never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out.”

Whilst Harmon’s future is up in the air, NCIS recently premiered a new spin-off series, with the action taking place Down Under for NCIS: Sydney.

NCIS airs on CBS in the US. Seasons 1-20 are streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
